So where to go in November depends on which part of the world you want to see. This list sorts twelve warm places by region: four in southern Europe, three in North Africa and the Gulf, and five in Asia, the Americas and Africa where the dry season is just starting. Every place comes with its November temperature, the sea where it matters, and the catch worth knowing before you book. There is also a short list of places to avoid this month, because November is the wettest month of the year in a few famous spots.

Download the appWarm in Europe in November: the far south and the islands
Most of Europe is past its season by November. The Balearic hotels and restaurants shut after October, the Algarve's boats cut back and Lisbon turns wet and quiet. What stays warm is the Atlantic islands and the far south and east of the Mediterranean. For the full ranking month by month, our guide to the warmest places in Europe in winter goes deeper; here are the four that work best in November.
1. Tenerife and Gran Canaria, Spain
The Canary Islands are the warmest place in Europe in November. The south of Tenerife averages 24.8°C by day and 18°C at night, and only 26 mm of rain falls in the whole month. Gran Canaria is a touch cooler at 24.2°C, with rain on about four days. The sea is still around 23°C off both islands, warmer than it will be again until summer.
Stay in the south for sun. On Tenerife that means Costa Adeje or Los Cristianos; the north, around Puerto de la Cruz and La Laguna, is greener, cooler at about 20°C and gets most of the island's rain. November is also when the winter season starts, so flights and rooms climb from here to Christmas. Book early if your dates are fixed.
Go at the end of the month for San Andrés on 29 November: Puerto de la Cruz drags tin cans through the streets with chestnuts and new wine, and Icod de los Vinos slides down its steep lanes on wooden boards. In Las Palmas, the marina fills with hundreds of yachts before the ARC rally sets off across the Atlantic in late November.

2. Paphos, Cyprus
Paphos in Cyprus still reaches 22.5°C by day in November. The sea is about 21°C, which is still swimmable, and the first rain turns the Akamas peninsula green again. It suits a quiet week of coast and ruins: the archaeological park and the Tombs of the Kings are close to empty by now.
The catch: resort hotels start closing in November, and fewer lifeguard towers are staffed. Base yourself in Kato Paphos, which keeps more open than Coral Bay, and plan on about three nights.
3. Malta
Malta pairs a city break with a last swim. November brings 20.8°C by day and a sea at 21.0°C, and the crowds of summer are gone: it is one of the emptiest months for Valletta. The Malta Book Festival takes place in Valletta in November, and the noon cannon still fires every day from the Saluting Battery below the Upper Barrakka Gardens.
Bring a rain jacket. November brings the first heavy showers of the season, and many hotel pools close for the winter.
4. Seville, Spain
Seville in November is mild, wet and empty, at around 21°C by day. It is not beach weather, but it is the best value month of the year for one of the hottest cities in Europe, with no queues at the Alcázar and the cathedral. Pack for rain and cool evenings, around 11°C after dark, and you have the city's palaces mostly to yourself. Our Seville guide has the sights and where to stay.

North Africa and the Gulf: dry heat
Egypt, Morocco and Dubai run from 21°C to 32°C in November, with almost no rain. These three work well for a week, and November is one of the best months of the year in all of them.
5. Luxor and Hurghada, Egypt
November is the most comfortable month of the year in Egypt. Luxor averages 28°C by day, which makes the temples walkable instead of punishing, and Hurghada on the Red Sea reaches 27°C with the sea at about 26°C. It is also the start of high season, so the crowds build from here.
In Luxor, go to the Valley of the Kings at opening, from 6 am, before the tombs get stuffy and the queues build. Luxor Temple stays open until 8 pm and is floodlit, the one big site that is better after dark. The single most recommended thing to do is a balloon at dawn over the necropolis; compare balloon rides and Valley of the Kings tours on GetYourGuide.
Then head to the coast. Go Bus runs between Luxor and Hurghada in about four hours, so one trip gives you both. For an all-inclusive week, the resort strip in Hurghada runs from about €90 to €200 a day, excursions included; the reefs around Giftun Island and the dolphins at Shaab El Erg are a short boat ride out.
6. Marrakesh, Morocco
Marrakesh is mild rather than hot in November: about 21°C by day, with short days, cool evenings and low prices. That makes it a good month for the city itself, which is mostly walking. See Djemaa el-Fna twice, once by day and once after dark, and book Jardin Majorelle ahead for the first slot of the day.
Nights get cold in a riad built around an open courtyard, so a heated room is worth paying for. For a spa hammam, expect about €55 (590 MAD) for a two-hour treatment. The Agafay desert is 40 minutes out for a night under the stars, and the Marrakech International Film Festival lands in late November or early December, when hotel prices move.
7. Dubai, United Arab Emirates
November is Dubai's sweet spot: 32°C by day, dry, everything open, and before the peak pricing of December. Global Village and the outdoor parks have reopened by now, and the beach is at its best.
Go up the Burj Khalifa at sunset rather than by day, when haze flattens the view, then walk down to the Dubai Fountain, which is free and runs every half hour through the evening. Horse racing at Meydan starts in November on Thursday evenings, with free general entry. One date to plan around: the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the last race of the Formula 1 season, falls in late November or early December and fills the hotels.

Asia, the Americas and Africa: the dry season starts
For the best places to travel in November further afield, look to where the dry season starts. In Thailand, Mexico and India, November is the first month of the good weather and often still priced before the Christmas peak.
8. Thailand
November is one of the best months for Thailand: the rains have gone in most of the country, the landscape is green, and prices have not yet hit the Christmas peak. It is around 30°C, and the north is comfortable for temple days and hill walks, with cool nights in the mountains.
Pick your coast carefully. The Andaman side, from Phuket and Krabi to Koh Lanta, is drying out and good from November, and the Similan islands reopen for diving in mid October. The Gulf islands, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, are the opposite: November is their rainy season, and our region by region guide to Thailand's seasons shows how the two coasts swap. The festival to time a trip around is Loy Krathong, when candlelit offerings float on every river; it is biggest in Chiang Mai, where it overlaps with the Yi Peng lanterns. The date moves every year, so check it before you book.
Our guide to Thailand in November covers which islands are open and what the month costs, and the best places to visit in Thailand are all on one map.
9. Mexico
November is when Mexico's dry season returns across the whole country. On the Caribbean coast it is the value window: Cancún averages 30°C by day, the water is the clearest of the year, and the seaweed that hits the beaches in summer is most reliably gone from November to February. The Atlantic hurricane season officially ends on 30 November.
Inland, Mérida reaches about 32°C. The city celebrates Hanal Pixán, the Yucatán's own Day of the Dead, and the flamingo season opens at Celestún. Mérida is the base for both, and for the cenotes and Maya ruins around it.
The other reason to go is Día de Muertos on 1 and 2 November. Oaxaca City stages it best, with the cemetery vigil at Xoxocotlán on the 31st and parades through the next two days. Book a room three months ahead or more, because it is the city's busiest week of the year.

10. India
North India is at its best in November. Jaipur averages 29°C by day, the strongest month of its year, so book ahead; Jaipur's forts and palaces are walkable at midday again after the summer heat. Varanasi is 29°C too, the Ganges is low enough for the boats and the ghat walks, and the city lights every one of its 84 ghats with oil lamps for Dev Deepawali, which falls in October or November. Our Varanasi guide covers the ghats, the evening aarti and Sarnath.
November is also the month of the Pushkar camel fair in Rajasthan, and Goa, Kerala and the south are in their best season too. The catch is Delhi: November is its worst month for air pollution, so keep your time there short and spend it in Rajasthan instead.
11. Cape Town, South Africa
While the northern hemisphere cools down, Cape Town is heading into summer. November averages 23.5°C by day with reliably fine weather, long days and prices that are still below the peak. The peak starts in mid December with the South African school holidays, so November is the month to go.
Walk up Lion's Head for sunrise, about an hour with a scramble at the top, and see the penguins at Boulders Beach in Simon's Town, about €11 (R220) to get in. Book Table Mountain online, but check the wind first: the southeasterly Cape Doctor blows hardest in summer and closes the cable car. Cape Town is one of the best places to visit in November for couples, with the Constantia and Stellenbosch wine estates under an hour away. Everything else is in our Cape Town guide.
12. Vietnam
Vietnam in November is two countries. The north is dry and clear, with Hanoi averaging about 22°C, and it is the best month of the year for Ha Long Bay: only 35 mm of rain on about six days, and the typhoon season is over. The south is turning too. Ho Chi Minh City drops to about 115 mm of rain, and Phu Quoc starts its dry season at 28°C.
The middle is the problem. Hoi An has its wettest month of the year in November, with 459 mm of rain and the highest flood risk, and the beaches around Da Nang have dangerous rip currents. Plan the north and the south and skip the centre, or fly over it; our guide to getting around Vietnam compares the flights, trains and buses.
You would not be the only one combining. Across the more than 128,000 Vietnam trips planned with Stippl, the typical one runs about a month with nine stops, and fewer than one in four is Vietnam only. So plan it as part of a bigger route: in November, northern Vietnam plus the Andaman coast of Thailand is a pairing where both halves are in season.

Where not to go in November
November is a great month in many places and the wettest of the year in a few famous ones. These are the places to skip or plan around:
- Central Vietnam. Hoi An has its wettest month and highest flood risk, and the central coast has dangerous rip currents.
- Sri Lanka's west and east coasts. Colombo gets about 364 mm of rain in November and Galle 283 mm, with cyclone risk on that coast, while the monsoon settles on the east. The south is drying out by late November, when the whale season starts off Mirissa, so a late November trip to the south coast can work.
- Bali. The wet season arrives properly in November, with 154 mm to 248 mm of rain depending on where you stay.
- Malaysia. November is the wettest month nationally, and the storm and flooding season starts.
- The Gulf islands of Thailand. Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao have their monsoon now; go to the Andaman side instead.
- Most of mainland Europe's beach resorts. On the Balearics and much of the Algarve, hotels and boat trips close after October.

Best places to visit in November in the USA
In the USA, the warm options in November are in Florida, Hawaii and the desert. Orlando has its driest and most comfortable month at about 26°C, Miami reaches 27°C as the hurricane season closes on 30 November, and Maui sits near 30°C as the first whales arrive, though its rainy season begins. In the desert, Death Valley opens its cool season at 25°C and Las Vegas is mild at 19°C, which is the most comfortable it gets.
And if you travel in December
December shifts the map again. Thailand moves into its peak season, with Christmas prices to match, which our guide to Thailand in December plans around, and Australia is in high summer: see Australia in December for where to go there. If you would rather stay in Europe, the Canaries, Madeira and Cyprus stay mild all winter, and the October beach destinations in Europe show how the season looks just before November.
