Denpasar is Bali's working capital, and you come for the market and the food rather than a beach. Pasar Badung is the largest traditional market on the island, five floors trading around the clock, wholesale from two in the morning and a night market until midnight. Kumbasari sells the craft half across the river. Museum Bali and the state temple, Pura Jagatnatha, sit on Puputan Square, which marks the day in 1906 the Badung court walked into Dutch gunfire rather than surrender.

Denpasar earns 1 night at the start of a trip, and you should eat while you are in it. The warungs serve the best-value Balinese food on the island at local rather than beach prices, and the market is at its best between five and nine in the morning. One booking trap is worth knowing: Ngurah Rai airport is not in Denpasar but in Tuban, thirteen kilometres south, so a room near the airport and a room in the city are twenty minutes apart.

The specific Denpasar risk is traffic, on foot as much as on wheels. It is the densest, fastest and least pedestrian-friendly road network on the island, and its pavements are intermittent

It is the one solid reason to, and it is what people do: travellers planning Denpasar on Stippl book about 83 days out, alongside the flights themselves. A bed a few minutes from the terminal beats an hour in traffic from Ubud at five in the morning.
No. Ngurah Rai sits in Tuban, in Badung Regency, about thirteen kilometres south of the city, and it carries Denpasar's name and airport code and nothing else. If you have booked a hotel in Denpasar for an early flight, check the distance: Kuta and Jimbaran are both closer.
Pasar Badung, the biggest market on Bali, with Kumbasari across the river from it. The Bali Museum, Pura Jagatnatha and Puputan Square, all on one square. It is a compact half day, and it is a working Indonesian city rather than a resort, which is exactly the reason to spend an hour there.
Administratively yes, practically no. Sanur is a beach town on the east coast inside the city boundary, with its own hotels, its own promenade and its own ferry terminal, and nobody treats the two as one place. Book Sanur if you want the beach and Denpasar if you want the market.
