The beach is the reason and it is genuinely good: a six-to-seven-kilometre crescent of sand with a promenade behind it, wide enough and calm enough to swim, which is not true of most Vietnamese city beaches
The bay holds 19 islands, and island-hopping, snorkelling and diving out to them is the second reason people come

- Go to Po Nagar early, before the tour buses and the midday heat

it is the airport, forty to sixty minutes south. Forty to sixty minutes south of the city, with taxis, Grab and shuttle buses all running the road
Most arrive overnight
because Nha Trang sits at a natural break in the north-south run

the descent off the highlands is one of the country's best motorbike rides
In town, Grab covers everything
and the strip itself is walkable end to end
The sea is the wet-season risk
September to December brings swell and occasional typhoons, and boat trips are cancelled rather than made uncomfortable

Cam Ranh is 40 to 60 minutes south of the city.
