Vienna, Austria
From Airport: Take S7 to Praterstern, walk to hotel.
To Parkrun: Walk to Praterstern, take U1 to Alte Donau.
To Train Station: Walk to Praterstern, take S-Bahn or U1 to Hauptbahnhof.
---------------------
Airport to hotel
Route: Follow signs at the airport to the "S-Bahn" (underground). Board the S7 train heading toward Floridsdorf or Mistelbach. Get off at Wien Praterstern (approx. 25 minutes).
Luggage: The S7 has dedicated luggage racks at the ends of the carriages. It is very manageable.
Walking: Exit Praterstern station and walk 5–10 minutes south down Praterstraße to the hotel.
Cost:
If buying single tickets: €4.40 per person (€13.20 total).
💡 PRO TIP FOR 3 PEOPLE: Buy a 24-hour, 48-hour, or 72-hour "Wien Netz" (Vienna Network) pass for €8.00, €14.10, or €17.10 per person. This pass includes the S7 train from the airport! For 3 people, three 48-hour passes cost €42.30 total, which is cheaper than buying individual airport tickets and covers all your other transport for two full days.
(Note: Avoid the "CAT" City Airport Train. It costs €13+ per person and only goes to Wien Mitte, requiring an extra transfer. The S7 is just as good and much cheaper).
---------------
Hotel to Parkrun
U1 Metro (Red Line)
Donauparkrun typically starts near the "Japanischer Garten" (Japanese Garden) or the main park entrances, which are closest to the Alte Donau U-Bahn station.
Route: Walk 5–10 mins from the hotel to Praterstern Station. Take the U1 (Red Line) heading toward Leopoldau.
Stops: Ride for 4 stops and get off at Alte Donau (approx. 10 minutes).
Walking: Exit the station and walk about 5–7 minutes into the park toward the parkrun start area (follow the other runners; it’s a very popular, well-signposted route).
Cost: Fully covered by your multi-day "Wien Netz" pass. (If paying cash per ride: €2.40 per person).
------------------
Hotel to Wien Hbf
S-Bahn or U1 (Both are excellent)
Since you are already at Praterstern, you are perfectly positioned. You have two equally good, direct options:
Option A: S-Bahn (S1, S2, S3, or S4)
Route: Board any S-Bahn at Praterstern heading south (direction: Meidling or Wolfsthal). Get off at Wien Hauptbahnhof (approx. 8–10 minutes).
Why it’s great: S-Bahn trains often have more luggage space and fewer stops.
Option B: U1 Metro (Red Line)
Route: Board the U1 heading toward Oberlaa. Get off at Südtiroler Platz - Hauptbahnhof (approx. 10 minutes, 4 stops). Follow the clear overhead signs inside the station up to the main train concourse.
Why it’s great: Runs very frequently (every 3-5 minutes).
Cost: Fully covered by your multi-day "Wien Netz" pass. (If paying cash per ride: €2.40 per person).
----------------
Tickets
Digital Option: You can also buy the multi-day passes directly in the "WienMobil" app on your phone. This is highly recommended as it eliminates the need to validate a paper ticket and is easy to show to inspectors.
One pass per person: Unlike some cities, Vienna's travel passes are strictly personal. You will need to buy one for each of the 3 travelers.

Budapest Keleti Station, Hungary
Keleti to Örs vezér tere
OPTION 1
Best if the timing aligns, as it requires ZERO transfers.
While the HÉV is the most frequent, the national railway (MÁV) also runs direct regional trains from Keleti station straight to Gödöllő.
Cost: ~550 HUF (approx. €1.40) using contactless or a single ticket.
Duration: ~35–40 minutes.
The Catch: They are less frequent than the HÉV (usually 1–2 per hour).
Action: When you get off the Vienna train, immediately check the departure boards at Keleti for "Gödöllő". If one is leaving in the next 15–30 minutes, take it. You can buy the ticket at the MÁV machines in the station or via the MÁV app.
----------------
OPTION 2
At Keleti Station: Follow signs for the M2 (Red) Metro. Use the elevators or escalators down to the platform (do not attempt the stairs with heavy bags).
The Metro Ride: Tap your contactless card at the M2 turnstile. Take the M2 line eastbound (direction: Örs vezér tere). It is only 4 stops (about 8 minutes), and you stay on the same train the whole way.
At Örs vezér tere: Follow the clear overhead signs for the H8 HÉV (Gödöllő). There are elevators from the metro platform up to the HÉV platforms.
The HÉV Ride: Tap your contactless card on the purple BKK validator on the platform. Board the train. The journey to Gödöllő takes about 40 minutes. The train terminates in the center of Gödöllő, right next to the Royal Palace.

Multi-Day Travelcard (The Winner):
24-hour pass: 2,500 HUF (~€6.30)
72-hour pass: 5,500 HUF (~€14.00)
Transport: H8 HÉV (Suburban rail)
Route: Board the H8 at Gödöllő station heading toward Örs vezér tere.
Duration: ~40 minutes.
---------------
Getting to Accommodation
Step 1: At Örs vezér tere, follow the clear signs down to the M2 (Red) Metro Line. Use the elevators or escalators (do not use the stairs with suitcases).
Step 2: Board the M2 train heading toward Déli pályaudvar.
Step 3: Ride for 4 stops (about 8 minutes) and get off at Ferenciek tere.
Step 4: Exit the station. You are now on the pedestrianized Váci utca. Walk north (straight ahead) for about 3–4 minutes. Number 57 will be on your left/right depending on the exact building, nestled among the shops and restaurants.
Payment: Covered by your travelcard, or tap contactless at the M2 turnstile (600 HUF).
--------
✈️ PART 4: 57 Váci utca to Budapest Airport (BUD)
This requires a specific combination of Metro and the Airport Express bus.
Step 1: Walk 3 minutes from your hotel to Ferenciek tere Metro Station (M3 Blue Line).
Step 2: Take the M3 Metro southbound toward Kőbánya-Kispest (the terminus).
Pro Tip: Because you are boarding near the start of the line, you are highly likely to get a seat for your luggage. Ride time is ~15 minutes.
Step 3: Get off at the final stop, Kőbánya-Kispest. Follow the overhead signs for the 100E Airport Express Bus.
Step 4: Board the 100E bus. It goes directly to the airport terminals with no intermediate stops (except one pickup at Deák Ferenc tér, but you are boarding at the start, so you get the luggage space). Ride time is ~25 minutes.
⚠️ CRITICAL PAYMENT NOTE FOR THE AIRPORT:
Standard travelcards and single tickets DO NOT work on the 100E Airport Express bus. You have two options:
The Budget Way: Buy a dedicated Airport Shuttle Ticket for 900 HUF (~€2.30). You can buy this in the BudapestGO app, at the ticket machine at Kőbánya-Kispest, or simply tap your contactless bank card on the validator when you board the 100E bus.
The Bundle Way: Buy the "BudapestGO Airport Ticket" for 3,000 HUF (~€7.60). This includes the 100E bus ride plus a 24-hour unlimited travelcard for the rest of the city.

Venice, Italy
Mestre to Venice
In the Trenitalia app, search "Venezia Mestre" to "Venezia S. Lucia", and buy a "Regionale" ticket. Benefit: The ticket is digital and time-stamped, meaning no need to validate a paper ticket.
Buy Two Single Tickets, Not a "Return": Trenitalia regional tickets are valid for 4 hours in the direction of travel once validated. Buying two one-way tickets gives you the flexibility to return to Mestre at any time within a 4-hour window of your choice, rather than being tied to a specific return time.
Santa Lucia vs. Mestre: Make sure you select Venezia S. Lucia as your destination in Venice, not "Venezia Mestre" (which is where you are starting) or "Venezia Porto Marghera".
-
Bologna, Italy
You are incredibly close to the Bologna-Porretta regional railway line. Instead of driving into the city, you will drive 5–10 minutes to a local station, park for free, and take the train.
The Drive: Drive from your accommodation down to either Casalecchio di Reno Station or Pontecchio Marconi Station (check the Trenitalia app to see which has the best schedule on your travel day). Casalecchio di Reno is a larger hub with more frequent trains and easier parking.
The Parking: Both stations have free or very cheap commuter parking lots right next to the platforms.
The Transport: Board the Trenitalia Regionale train heading toward Bologna Centrale.
The Journey: The train ride takes only 10 to 15 minutes and drops you at Bologna Centrale (the main station), which is a 10-minute walk or a quick 2-minute local bus ride to Piazza Maggiore and the Two Towers.
Cost: ~€2.60 per person, per way.
Ticketing: Buy via the Trenitalia App. Just buy a digital ticket and scan it on your phone as you board.
Crucial Warnings for Your Hire Car
Do NOT follow your GPS into the center: If you type "Piazza Maggiore" into your GPS, it will try to route you through the ZTL gates. The fines are €80–€100+ per camera, and rental companies will add a €30 admin fee on top of that. Always set your GPS to the train station or Parcheggio Tanari.

Florence, Italy
Accommodation to City
1. Walk to the Tram Stop (3–5 minutes)
From Via Giovanni del Pian dei Carpini, walk north toward the University of Florence Science campus. Your closest stops are either "Polo Scientifico" or "Guido Baccelli".
2. Board the Tram
Direction: Make sure you board the tram heading toward "Careggi" (this is the direction that goes into the city center).
Frequency: Trams run every 5–10 minutes during the day.
3. Where to Get Off
For the Main Train Station (Santa Maria Novella / SMN): Get off at "Alamanni - Stazione" (the tram stops literally right outside the station) or "Unità" (a 2-minute walk from the station).
For the Duomo / Historic Center: Get off at "Unità" or "Viale Spartaco Lavagnini" and enjoy a pleasant 10–15 minute walk through the city, or transfer to a local bus (like the C1 or C2) from there.
Travel Time: Approximately 15–20 minutes to the city center.
Ticketing
1. The "at bus" App (Highly Recommended)
Download the "at bus" app before you arrive.
Create an account and link your credit card.
Purchase a "Biglietto Ordinario" (Ordinary Ticket) for €1.70.
Crucial: You must activate/validate the ticket in the app just as you step onto the tram. It is then valid for 90 minutes, allowing unlimited transfers between trams and buses.

Rome, Italy
Book entry to Colosseum in August.
-------------------
For a 3-day stay, you have two excellent options. Do not buy single paper tickets from machines; it’s a waste of time.
🥇 Option A: Contactless "Tap & Go" (Highly Recommended)
Rome’s ATAC transport system now fully accepts contactless credit/debit cards and Apple/Google Pay.
How it works: Simply tap your card on the metro turnstile or the bus/tram validator when you board.
The Magic: The system automatically calculates the best fare and caps your daily spending at €7.00 (the price of a 24-hour pass), no matter how many trips you make that day.
Why it wins: Zero queues, no apps to figure out, no paper to lose. (Note: If traveling as a group, each person must tap their own card).
🥈 Option B: 72-Hour Travel Pass (€18.00)
If you plan to be on transport constantly, buy a 72-hour pass.
----------
📍 PART 2: Your Location Advantages
You are incredibly well-positioned. From Via Nicolò III, 4, you have three major transport assets right on your doorstep:
. Roma San Pietro Train Station: A mere 3–4 minute walk
This is a regional rail station that will be your secret weapon.
. Metro Line A (Orange): Ottaviano or Lepanto stations are about a 10–12 minute walk in.trip.com
. Major Bus Routes: Bus stops for lines 64, 40, and 982 are just a few minutes away on Via della Conciliazione or Via Trionfale
---------
2. The Colosseum & Roman Forum
The "Secret Weapon" Route (Fastest): Walk to Roma San Pietro station. Take the FL3 regional train direction Viterbo and get off at Roma Ostiense (10 minutes). From Ostiense, it’s a pleasant 10-minute walk to the Colosseum, or you can take Metro Line B for 1 stop.
The Metro Route: Walk 10 mins to Ottaviano (Metro A). Take it to Termini, switch to Metro B (direction Laurentina), and get off at Colosseo. (Total time: ~25 mins).
4. Trevi Fountain, Pantheon & Piazza Navona
Transport: Walk 10 mins to Lepanto or Ottaviano (Metro A).
Route: Take Metro A to Spagna (for Spanish Steps/Trevi) or Barberini (closest to Trevi). From there, it’s a scenic 5–10 minute walk to the Pantheon and Piazza Navona.
Alternative: Catch Bus 40 (the express version of the 64) from nearby Via della Conciliazione straight to Largo Argentina (next to the Pantheon).
---------
Tap On AND Off for Trains: If you use the FL3 regional train (from San Pietro), you must tap your contactless card on the yellow validators on the platform before boarding, AND tap again on the validators when you exit the destination station. If you forget to tap off, you will be charged a maximum penalty fare. (Metro and buses only require tapping on).
Beware the "Pickpocket Express": Bus 64 is incredibly useful for getting to Termini, but it is notorious for pickpockets. Keep your backpack on your front and your phone in a zipped pocket. Metro Line A is generally safer for tourists.
