Grindelwald, Switzerland
Base for the Eiger Trail and hikes up to Bachalpsee — one of the most dramatic alpine lakes in the Bernese Oberland. Stock up on supplies in the village before heading onto longer trails. Wild camp on the ridge above Grosse Scheidegg for a stunning sunrise over the Eiger north face.
-
Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland
A deep glacial valley with 72 waterfalls, best explored on foot via the Sefinenfurgge pass trail into total wilderness. Hike up to Obersteinberg — a remote mountain inn with no roads and no electricity — for an unforgettable overnight stay. The trails above Mürren toward Schilthorn are quiet, rugged, and offer sweeping Jungfrau views.
-
Arolla, Switzerland
A tiny, remote village at 2000m in the Val d'Hérens, far from the tourist crowds and perfect for serious alpine hiking. The trail to Lac Bleu and onward toward the Col de Riedmatten is spectacular and rarely overcrowded. Wild camp above the treeline near Pigne d'Arolla for a jaw-dropping sunset and sunrise over the glaciated peaks of the Valais Alps.
