Furnace Creek, United States
An oasis in the desert. National park campground next to the visitor center.
Fill up your gas tank before you head into the valley. It’s a long way between filling stations out there.
Best Camping
You can’t go wrong with any of the campgrounds in Death Valley. Furnace Creek is the only campground located ‘in’ the valley that’s open year around. Sunset, Texas Spring, and Stovepipe campgrounds are legit as well, although they’re only open October through April. You can book these in advance at recreation.gov, however, Furnace Creek is available on a first-come basis during winter months.

South Lake Tahoe, United States of America
You will no doubt want to stop off at California's State Capital, Sacramento, en route to Lake Tahoe and our suggested campground, Historic Camp Richardson Resort & Marina, located on Lake Tahoe's Southwest Shore. You'll have a great time at this year round resort where miles of sandy beaches await the summer visitor and where everything from Seadoo and power boat rentals, to paddle boat and kayaks are available. Enjoy relaxing on the long stretch of beach, and enjoy the swimming area. Still looking for ways to add excitement? Try the Lake Tahoe Water-ski School, a sailing lesson, or soar 12,000 feet above the water while parasailing!
Escape Camper tip: It’s not a National Park, but it’s a nice way to loop back around to California. There are two main areas: North Tahoe and South Tahoe. Head to South Tahoe for casinos and pricey restaurants. Otherwise, North Tahoe is your place. It’s more laid back with better campgrounds (subjective opinion), beaches, and little communities that are more in line with the Escape crowd. Check out Truckee, Tahoe City, and Kings Beach if you’re looking for hip, welcoming mountain towns.
