Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa
SAFE TRAVELLING TO ROSEDALE
FROM PORT ELIZABETH
DO NOT USE THE R335 OFFRAMP FROM THE N2 NEAR PORT ELIZABETH.
Addo Park and surrounding areas are very safe for tourists. Unfortunately some Map apps direct travellers along the R335. through Motherwell township, which is a bad road, and has a high crime rate. There are many alternative safe routes to get to Addo.
If you plug 'Paterson' into google maps, this will take you in the right direction.
Take the N2 North from Port Elizabeth. About 50km from the airport, take the N10 to Paterson and Cradock. At Paterson, turn left on to the R342. You will pass the main entrance to the Addo Park. Continue for another 12km, and turn left onto the Rosedale Road just before the railway crossing.
If you are travelling early, we suggest entering the Addo Park through the southern gate at Colchester, and enjoy some extra wild life viewing. You can travel through the Park an d exit at the Main Gate.
FROM THE GARDEN ROUTE
A slightly shorter route starts at van Stadens, (R334) passes through Uitenhage, along the R75.
Proceed from Uitenhage along the R75 (North) for about 37km. Turn right towards Kirkwood. At the R336 turn right and proceed for 30km till you get the the R335 T junction. Turn right along the R335, and after 200m turn left on to the Rosedale Road.
FROM PATERSON (ON THE N10)
Take the R342 towards Addo. This turns into the R335 beyond the Addo Elephant Park Main Camp turnoff. Proceed for 11km on the R335 beyond the Addo Park turnoff and turn left before the railway crossing.
FROM GRAHAMSTOWN AND PORT ALFRED
