Lovina/Ubud drive
DON’T GO TO Besakih Temple (scammers and hasslers)
Puri Lukisan Art Gallery, Ubud
Evening dance performance at the Rajah's Palace, Ubud
Drinking green coconuts on Kuta Beach
GWK, Uluwatu
Food Court, Beachwalk Mall, Kuta
Mt Batur, Kintamani
Tirta Gangga
Tenganan Village
Hot springs/spa
Tanah Lot Temple
Jatiluwih
Pura Gunung Kawi Sebatu
Monkey forests (in Sangeh or Ubud)
Nusa Penida (snorkelling with manta rays)
ITINERARY SUGGESTIONS:
a) NORTH downwards. Pura Ulun Danu Beratan (arrive early as possible), Jatiluwih
rice terraces, Sangeh Monkey Forest, Beji Griya waterfall, Pura Taman Ayun &
Ogoh-Ogoh Museum (it's one place, almost.)
b) NORTH-EAST downwards. Sunrise over Mt Batur/Danu Batur (from viewpoint, you
won't have time to hike up), Pura Puncak Penulisan, Hutan Pinus Glagalinggah
Lestari, Penglipuran Village & Bamboo Forest (only worth it if you talk to
locals in their houses), Pura Kehen (beautiful, uncrowded, the Chinese ceramics
and banyan tree have interesting backstories.)
c) EAST of UBUD. Pura Tirta Gunung Kawi Sebatu, Candi Tebing Gunung Kawi, Goa
Gajah, Setia Darma House, enforced rain detour to Rudana & Agung Rai museums
which I quite enjoyed - both have interesting grounds to walk around. You might
like to ask your driver to go to the handicraft wholesale shops in Tegalalang
Road, if you want cheaper prices than elsewhere.
"quiet" temple next to Titra Empul/ Gunung Kawi at Tampaksiring, then take a
look at the little water temple Pura Mengening
Kintamani/Lake Batur, Penglipuran Village, Pura Kehen Temple, Suwat Waterfall,
Kanto Lampo waterfall
Kecak performance but beware of monkey snatchings

If you want to see candi gates without going to Lempuyang, the Handara Gates are
just north of Ulun Danu Beratan Temple in itinerary A that juniper suggested.
It's actually the entrance to a golf course but the gates are impressive and
it's photogenic. If you do this first, should be little or no wait for a photo
and then you could head down to the Temple. There is a small cash fee to take a
photo.
Lovina and Amed If you’re a scuba diver, I hugely recommend Amed/Talumben. This
small town is right next to the wreck of the USAT Liberty, which once stranded
relatively close to shore. You can literally walk from your dive shop into the
sea, and then slowly descent from the shores right down to the wreck. Since no
boat ride is required, dives cost very little.
