Chefchaouen, Morocco
Shef-shau-win
We have a 2 hour self guided tour
Nestled in the Rif mountains - expect cooler weather. Leisurely stroll along the blue washed narrow winding hilly streets and to unwind with mint tea and yoghurt and honey in one of its small squares.
Very conservative with alcohol - no alcohol served at stores! Suggestion you buy it prior to visit!
Early October is peak tourist season.
Enjoy the sunset from the highest point.
Look for a narrow, colorful street adorned with vibrant shop windows - look for a modest garage with double open doors - filled with old pots and iron ware. This shop draws the largest queues. The owner, an older man sets up a big pot, burner, bags of sugar and peanuts. A paper bag of crispy still warm peanuts costs 5 Mad (under a dollar - .93 cents).
Walk to the Spanish mosque for the best views! We can’t enter - Muslims only
Chefchaouen Ras El Maa waterfall - visit the washing stations (think this is a 40 minute drive).
This town was the Spanish colony so the food very different from other parts of the country. Local pastries and light yoghurt with honey for breakfast.
If we have time we can enjoy a hamman. Ryad Lina has a spa - Mad 300 ($55) for traditional hamman.

MLaoui or Msammen - made with semolina flour - breakfast. Thin layered pastry - pan fried bread. Sold as street food.
b’stilla also called Pastilla - a savoury sweet pie with saffron in a crispy filo style wrapping. Stuffed with chicken (also pigeon) dusted with cinnamon and sugar. Found in Fez
