So the guides are all volunteer organizations. Even if they did not ask us to
pay for their transportation costs and meal costs, we always tried to pay for
them as a courtesy, since they are volunteers and were spending their time to
help us. Two of the organizations below are student groups, and I remember how
hungry I was in college, and appreciative when a meal was bought for me!! We
also brought gifts from the US to show our appreciation! Final thing I’ll say is
that I setup Zoom calls prior to our trip with every guide to discuss our
itinerary, set expectations about our kids, and also let the guides meet our
kids online, so we’d start the relationship off on the right foot. Sorry if I’m
being too papa bear, but I am protective of people especially when they are
sincere in helping!! Organizations listed below, and I did make initial contact
with each 1-2 months before our trip, so not sure if last minute scheduling is
an option. -https://www.tokyofreeguide.org

Takayama, Japan
als het kan eten bij Ryokan Seiryu, hier kaiseki dinner nemen (mensen sliepen
hier ook en was beste van hun hele vakantie). Takayama Onsen tip! If you are
looking for an onsen to soak away all the aches from all the walking, we have
just had a fantastic soak up at the Hotel Associa onsen. The onsen is set across
2 levels, with multiple indoor and outdoor baths and amazing views across the
mountains. A free shuttle bus will take you up the hill to the hotel from
Takayama station. Entry is 900 yen per adult and 300 yen for children. I
thought this was fantastic value! You do not need to be a guest at the hotel to
use the spa facilities - you go up to level 6 and follow the signs and pay at
the spa entry. Towels, toiletries, hair dryers are all provided. Edit: Hotel
website with details is https://www.associa.com/tky/multi-lingual/spa/?wovn=en
Tourist Office at the station has information regarding the hotel and shuttle
bus and will be able to point you in the right direction. The shuttle bus to the
hotel departs from the western side of the station ( opposite side to the
Tourist Office) and returns from the hotel to the eastern side.
