Cahir Castle, Ireland
Cahir Castle, Co. Tipperary
Arrive: ~9:30am | Opens: 9:30am | Allow: 1 hr | Distance from Cashel: 20 mins
One of Ireland's largest and best-preserved castles, built on a river island in the centre of town. Complete curtain walls, towers, great hall, and an audio-visual show included with entry. Entry fee. Far fewer crowds than Cashel or Kilkenny despite being equally impressive structurally.
Also worthwhile in Cahir:
River walk along the Suir below the castle walls — free, 15 mins, excellent views from the bank
Swiss Cottage — 1km south of town, a John Nash-designed thatched cottage ornée from 1810. Eccentric and charming, worth 30 mins if architectural curiosities interest you. Entry fee. (If you skip it now, you pass through Cahir again on June 6 and can do it then.)
Depart Cahir: ~10:45am
