Step‑by‑Step Driving Route
1. Aktau → Zhanaozen (≈152 km)
➡ Take the A‑33 / A33 highway east out of Aktau.
➡ Follow this main paved road toward Zhanaozen — this is the major town where the desert roads begin.
📍 This is the longest paved stretch of the route.
2. Zhanaozen → Kyzylsay (≈20 km)
➡ From Zhanaozen, continue east toward Kyzylsay village.
➡ There’s a signposted junction here.
📍 Kyzylsay may be labeled differently on some maps, but it’s the key junction before the dirt road.
3. Kyzylsay Junction → Senek Village (~20 km)
➡ Turn off the paved road toward Senek.
➡ This part begins transitioning from asphalt to well‑graded dirt roads, passing Senek sand dunes and desert scenery.
📸 If you want, stop near Senek for dune photos — the sand reaches ~30 m high.
4. Senek → Besokty (~25 km off‑road)
➡ After Senek, the paved road ends and you’ll continue on unsealed desert tracks.
➡ Drive to the old cemetery landmark near Besokty, which is a known reference point.
➡ From here, head northeast across the desert takyr (dry clay plain).
➡ Bokty will be visible from a distance — its layered profile stands out.
5. Besokty → Bokty (≈15–20 km off‑road)
➡ Navigate northeast through the desert soil toward the mountain itself.
➡ The surface here is often flat and white (salt/clay takyr) but can be muddy when wet, so a 4×4 with high clearance is strongly recommended.
