Bastimentos, Panama
Beginning to Doubt this - all small islands are super pricey although pretty
secluded and have amazing beaches. Not ready to spend 200 plus a night. Can stay
in a hostel I found (a private room with AC and a private bathroom ) but it's
not on a beach, it is on the ocean although it is affordable and we could
possibly take part in activities and travel around with the $ we save from
accommodations.

Santa Catalina, Panama
Leaving Panama city for Santa Catalina
- No Direct bus - takes about 8-9 hrs to get there on a public bus ( Panama City
to Sona about 320 KM, then a small local bus ( No bathrooms on the buses!!!)
Stop every 3 hrs for PP break :( bring depends lol bring earbuds, music is
blasting the whole drive
- cost is about 15$ Us per person as of 6 months ago
- Must buy the bus ticket at the terminal and also to check the schedule -
(Public bus) you can't buy online ( go a couple of days before b/c its very busy
and fills up quick at normal times.)
- Take an uber from the hotel to bus station, and show up an hour early because
it fills up really fast
- You drive over the Panama Canal when leaving for Santa Catalina
- Small - very calm, not busy, 2 streets, a couple of hotels and restaurants,
and a couple of dive shops. Bring cash b/c there's only 1 ATM... Some say there
is not any ATM
- Don't stay at the huts, the roof leaks, no AC.
- Santa Catalina is not yet popular amongst tourists but it is predicted to be
the next area to blow up with tourism.
- good waves and diving - not yet hipster surf town
- Very lush and on the beach at the same time.
- the best beach is you keep walking from the main road and turn left,
- the not-so-good one has one restaurant and no one on the beach. No chairs
- The "good beach" has a river running through it. No one there, maybe 5 ppl. No
chairs, No restaurants.
- between the town and the "good beach" there's a smoothy place "surfers point"
- There's a local place fish ( deep fried) with lentils, rice, and salad, (5$ Us
for the meal)
