Pai District, Thailand
Pai canyon
A dramatic landscape of eroded ridges and narrow paths.
•Great for sunset views and light hiking; bring good shoes because the trails can be slippery or uneven.
•Best visited late afternoon so you can see the golden light and walk when it’s cooler
Wat Phra That Mae Yen (often called the White/Big Buddha)
Situated on a hill overlooking Pai valley. Climbing the ~300+ steps rewards you with sweeping views.
• A good time is around sunset. Also, dress modestly for the temple– shoulders & knees covered.
Pai walking street
The main night-market hub of Pai: food stalls, handicrafts, live music, relaxed atmosphere.
• Good for dinner, a wander, soaking up local/laid-back backpacker vibes.
• Tip: Arrive around 5-6pm when things start full swing.
Waterfalls and hot springs
Mo Paeng Waterfall: Within ~20 mins of Pai; has natural pools and rock-slides.
• Pam Bok Waterfall: Near the bamboo bridge area (see below); nice swim spot especially in rainy season.
• Hot springs (e.g., Tha Pai Hot Spring): Good for a relaxing dip after sightseeing.
Kho Ku So Bamboo Bridge & Rice‐field Views
A picturesque bamboo-walkway through rice fields and countryside near Pai.
• Great early morning or late afternoon when lighting is nicest; quieter too.
PRIVATE WATERFALL
🌾 2. Mae Yen Waterfall (not the White Buddha temple!)
• A hidden waterfall deep in the jungle, reached by a 2–3 hour trek each way from Pai.
• The hike crosses the river multiple times and is rarely crowded because it’s not signposted and takes effort.
• Bring snacks, swimwear, and water; you’ll likely have it to yourself.
🌿 Note: Go only in dry or cool season (Nov–Feb). In the rains, the river can be unsafe to cross.
