Best things to do are around whitianga, not whitianga itself.
1.Cross the ferry and do the Shakespears Cliff walk and also the Whitianga Rock walk. While your on the otherside of the ferry stop by Eggcentric Cafe.
Also take the ferry to cooks beach
2. Make your way to Hot Water Beach (check the tides) and Cathedral Cove. Also stop by Hahei Beach which is beautiful. Some neat local breweries in that area too.
3. Drive over to Kuaotunu to have lunch at Luke's Kitchen and try the famous ice creams at the dairy. Also visit Opito and Otama beaches while you are there (I'm sure one of them was voted in top 10 beaches in NZ)
4. Coromandel town is cute, lovely cafes and shops. I would for sure recommend the Driving Creek Railroad train ride, absolutely amazing.
5. Whitianga has some nice fancy stores and neat food places (Nina's Cafe, Blue Ginger, That Curry Place). The pubs are a good time too.

Travel to Tauranga --> (go kiwi shuttles 73$ 7:30-9:00) - thames (intercity bus 40$ 2pm) - tuaranga) bookings in mail
