Inari Shrine - basically red gates the whole way up
a small mountain - an iconic enough picture you see of Japan sometimes.
Can get train from Kyoto station to Inari station - the shrine and walk
right in front of station. Train takes 5 mins or so. Crowd reduces
dramatically the more you walk. I was about 90 minutes here but you don’t
need to do it all. Views at the top are not amazing but the walk up is
cool.
Arashiyama bamboo grove/forest - You could get train back to
Kyoto and then another train for 15 minutes to Arashiyama. I really liked
this. You may not have time to do both but there is a lovely temple called
Tenryi-ji which is a world heritage site. I spent again about 90 minutes
here. The monkey place is here too but we can avoid that one!! :)
Kiyomizu-dera is
the main shrine and temple place in Kyoto itself. Probably best getting a
taxi from the station here. It has lots of streets selling souvenirs etc
on the way up. Ninen zaka and Sannen Zaka are streets close by and you get
some nice pics of Pagodas
Gion -
can walk from Kiyomizu dera. This is where you see Geishas walking around.
Cherry blossoms meant to be amazing here. Hanamikoji dori the main street
here. Shinbashi Dori another street. Cool to walk around. You are quite
close to city centre here so could walk to a street called
Ponto Cho - not much when bright but very nice
when dark - lit by lanterns
Philosophers walk - meant to be spectacular during cherry
blossom season. Was only ok for me and a bit away from everything else. If
you see them everywhere else you could skip this.
