Pick up rail passes from station Booking trips after getting passes . Just turn up at the station. . Don't queue at the JR Ticket Office. - This could easily take you from 20 minutes up to an hour just waiting in line. . Better to use the self-service shinkasen ticket machines (very user friendly): 1. Select the Japan Rail Pass Option (main screen) - It will ask you to scan the QR Code on your JR Pass, plus typing your Passport number 2. Input your departing station (Hiroshima) plus your destination (Tokyo) and the desired departing time. 3. It will prompt you with the routes available and even if you got to change trains. 4. Select the seats on the screen for each train. 5. The machine will print ALL the correspondent tickets. 6. Enter the gates inserting ONLY the JR Pass. 7. The other tickets will only be your vouchers that confirm your route+the seats selected... While on the train, sometimes one of the staff members will ask you to show it/them and that's it. This process will only take you around 5 minutes or less, instead of waiting for your turn to be called at the Ticket Office.
