Day 1 - Exploring La Paz

Il tour (in inglese) non è gratuito in quanto non è permesso per legge ma costa solo 3 dollari.
Prendi il teleferico per El Alto
La Paz ha creato un sistema di funivia che connette il centro città ai quartieri più poveri che la circondano. Per i viaggiatori è un modo per godere delle viste più suggestive. In una giornata limpida è possibile vedere la cima del Monte Illimani sullo sfondo.
Ci sono due linee dalle quali si ha una buona vista:
* La linea rossa da Estación Teleférico Central a Estación 16 de julio. Una volta raggiunto El Alto esci dalla stazione per godere a pieno della vista.
* La linea gialla da Chuqui Apu/Libertador a Mirador/Qhana Pata offre anch’essa delle buone vista sulla città.
Il sistema di funivia funziona come una metropolitana, si paga ogni qualvolta si entra nel sistema, il costo è di 3 bolivianos.
Se hai la possibilità di visitare El Alto il giovedì o la domenica allora non perderti il mercato che è tra i più grandi del Sud America e puoi letteralmente trovare di tutto (prendi la linea rossa del teleferico)
Cholita wrestling
Ogni giovedì alle 18:30 e domenica alle 16:30 queste donne si esibiscono in uno spettacolo di wrestling che attrae centinaia di persone e negli anni è diventata un’attrazione turistica di La Paz.
La maggior parte delle agenzie/ostelli vende il tour completo di trasporto, snack, entrata e un piccolo souvenir a circa 85 bolivianos. È ovviamente possibile organizzare il tutto da soli ma ricorda che i posti migliori sono riservati dalle agenzie e El Alto non è un posto consigliabile dove girare la sera.
La valle della Luna è un insieme di formazioni rocciose alquanto particolare che si trova a circa 10km da La Paz.
Come raggiungere la valle de la Luna da La Paz?
Prendi un collectivo diretto a Mallasa dalla fermata vicino alla chiesa di San Francisco e Calle Sagarnaga, 3Bs 30-40 minuti oppure 30Bs circa in taxi. Sarai scaricato di fronte all’entrata. Per tornare ti basterà prendere uno dei numerosi collectivos diretti a La Paz centro.
Il sito è aperto dalle 8:00 alle 17:30 e l’entrata costa 15Bs.
Camino de los Yungas o Camino de la Muerte (death road)
Vicino a La Paz si trova una strada che nel 1995 è stata nominata la strada più pericolosa del mondo. Lunga circa 61 km, è stata per anni l’unica via di collegamento verso la capitale per macchine e camion che percorrevano il tratto La Paz Coroico. Tra le duecento e le trecento persone perdevano la vita percorrendola ogni anno.
Fortunatamente ora esiste una nuova strada che ha completamente rimpiazzato il Camino de la Muerte, diventato ora un’attrazione turistica.
Lungo il Camino de los Yungas, è infatti possibile scendere in bicicletta con partenza a 4650 metri e temperature non proprio miti per finire a 1200 metri dove troverai un clima quasi tropicale. L’intera esperienza e i paesaggi attraversati completamente diversi tra loro sono sicuramente un ottimo modo per passare una giornata.
Per quanto riguarda la sicurezza non preoccuparti troppo, ti verranno fornite protezioni ed elmetto. La strada è praticamente priva di traffico, sono presenti dei guard rails nei tratti più pericolosi ed è possibile scendere al proprio passo senza nessuna fretta. Se per qualsiasi ragione ne avessi bisogno (dubito ne avrai) puoi salire a bordo del pulmino che segue a ruota in qualsiasi momento.
Il tour offerto da tutte le agenzie di La Paz sembra avere un prezzo minimo di 300Bs (ho provato almeno 10 agenzie diverse) più 50Bs di tassa per il mantenimento della strada. Il prezzo include trasporto, equipaggiamento, snack e pranzo a buffet con tanto di bagno in piscina una volta arrivato in fondo. Tutto sommato è qualcosa che mi sento di consigliare.
Trekking a La Paz e dintorni
È facile trovare un’agenzia a La Paz che offre tour di 2 o 3 giorni per scalare il Huayna Potosi. È considerato uno dei 6000 metri più facili al mondo e viene regolarmente scalato da migliaia di alpinisti più o meno esperti ogni anno.
I prezzi vanno dai 900 ai 1200 Bos per il tour di 3 giorni..
Tiwanaku
Sono delle rovine risalenti all’epoca pre-inca davvero impressionanti, gli enormi blocchi di roccia che compongono non sono originari del luogo in cui si trovano le rovine e per questo Tiwanaku è stato rinominato il Stonehenge delle americhe, in ogni caso sito davvero interessante e consigliato, l’entrata costa 100Bs.
Per andare a Tiwanaku partendo dal centro di La Paz raggiungi prima il “Cementerio” in taxi e microbus (1.50Bs partono vicino a Plaza San Francisco) dal Cementerio sono due isolati fino a Calle Eyzaguire da dove partono i microbus diretti a Tiwanaku, 10-15Bs, 2 ore circa.
