Day 2
Skardu → Deosai Plateau day itinerary
07:00 – Leave Skardu
Deosai sits at around 4,000–4,300 metres, so it can be surprisingly cold and windy.
⸻
08:30–09:30 – Enter Deosai National Park
The landscape changes dramatically as you climb:
* Skardu’s dry valleys disappear.
* The road opens onto enormous rolling grasslands.
* Snow-covered peaks surround the plateau.
⸻
10:00 – Wildlife and viewpoints
Stop frequently rather than rushing.
Look out for:
* Himalayan marmots (very common and entertaining),
* golden eagles,
* foxes (less common),
* wildflowers if timing is right.
Your driver will know the best stopping points.
⸻
11:30–13:00 – Sheosar Lake ⭐
This is the highlight.
Sheosar Lake is one of the most beautiful places in the region:
* turquoise water,
* huge open grasslands,
* mountains reflected in the lake.
This is where I’d slow down:
* walk along the shore,
* take your picnic,
* just sit and enjoy the scale.
⸻
13:00–15:00 – Explore the plateau
Rather than chasing lots of stops, I’d ask the driver to take you slowly across the plateau.
Good stops:
* streams and wildflower meadows,
* viewpoints over the plains,
* marmot colonies.
If you want a little walking, there are many easy opportunities — this is not a steep mountain hike, it is more about being in the landscape.
⸻
15:00–17:30 – Return to Skardu
Day 3
Fly to Lahore.
