Clothing
Temperature in the night can vary from 8 to 15 degrees.
Come prepared with some warm clothing for the night.
Horton Plains
If you are not visiting Horton Plains avoid coming through Horton Plains (Nuwara Eliya, Ambawela, Pattipola) as applicable gate charges will have to be paid even if you don't go inside the park. Park fees payable in Lkr only.
Travelling by Vehicle
It is advisable to come in a normal clearance vehicle (not too low) before 6 pm as there can be thick mist and also the last 1 km the road is not even.
Trekking
Hill Safari is a trekkers paradise. In case you come to Hill Safari early you could :
- Walk around Ohiya Tea Estate, forests and mountains.
- Climb top of Ohiya Estate (7,200 ft above sea level) and enjoy the wide scenic view.
If you can spend a day or two
- You can walk upto Bambarakanda waterfall (Tallest waterfall) and take a train from Haputale to Ohiya. This Trek passes through the famous Devil’s Stair case.
- You can also trek upto Iddalgasenna Railway Station (5.5 kms) and come by train to Ohiya. There are 14 tunnels between Iddalgasenna and Ohiya.
Evening relax and enjoy the panoramic view from “Dondra Watch/Hill Safari” which extends upto the Southern coast of Sri Lanka. You could also read the wide range of books, magazines etc. including a good collection of articles on Horton Plains.
