So Cat Ba Island is where the Ha Long bay cruise sets off from. Stay at Buffalo Hostel Cat Ba Island and book your cruise with them. Day cruise was what I did and it was great.
Buffalo also have a sister hostel in Hanoi, so can walk into and ask them and they may be able to get your transport and tour arranged. before you arrive in Cat Ba.
