Arusha National Park, Tanzania
I had the chance to do a full-day safari at Arusha National Park, and it was an unforgettable experience — perfect for anyone who wants to see diverse wildlife without spending days on the road. The park is really close to Arusha town, so it’s super convenient if you’re short on time.
The morning started with an early pick-up from my hotel. Our guide was friendly and very knowledgeable, explaining the plan for the day and sharing interesting facts about the park’s wildlife and geography. Driving into Arusha National Park, I was immediately struck by the stunning views of Mount Meru, which towers majestically over the landscape. It’s the second highest mountain in Tanzania and adds an incredible scenic backdrop to the safari.
The park itself is quite varied in landscape. We drove through dense forests, open grasslands, and around beautiful crater lakes, especially the Momella Lakes area. I was amazed at how much variety was packed into such a small park!
Wildlife spotting was fantastic. I saw giraffes casually nibbling leaves, zebras grazing peacefully, and colorful birds everywhere — Arusha is known for its incredible birdwatching. We also spotted a troop of playful vervet monkeys and even some blue monkeys swinging through the trees. The highlight for me was watching a group of hippos lounging in the lake, some even surfacing right next to the shore — it was such a peaceful, almost surreal moment.
What I really appreciated was the personalized feel of the tour. Since the park is smaller and less crowded than Serengeti or Ngorongoro, we could stop and take photos without rushing. The guide pointed out interesting plants, explained how the ecosystem works, and answered all my questions. It felt like a true nature immersion rather than a quick drive-by.
After several hours exploring the park, we stopped for a picnic lunch near the lakeshore. Eating surrounded by nature, with the chance to watch more wildlife around us, made the whole experience even more special.
The afternoon was spent driving back through different parts of the park, looking for any animals we hadn’t seen yet. The diversity of Arusha National Park surprised me — it’s a wonderful introduction to Tanzania’s natural beauty and wildlife.
By late afternoon, we returned to Arusha town, and I felt grateful for such a rich, full day packed with amazing sights, sounds, and wildlife encounters. If you’re visiting Tanzania and want a quick but rewarding safari experience, I highly recommend an Arusha National Park day trip. It’s ideal for travelers who don’t have the time for longer safaris but still want to see Africa’s incredible wildlife up close.
