Fly into Las Vegas as your gateway — it's about 4.5 hours by car to the Grand Canyon South Rim. The Strip is fun for families and there are great buffets and shows for all ages. Pick up your rental car here for the scenic drive to Arizona.

Book mule rides to the canyon bottom (Phantom Ranch) well in advance — they sell out months ahead, so confirm availability immediately. Alternatively, helicopter tours depart from Grand Canyon Airport in Tusayan, just 10 minutes south of the rim. Winter visits are magical with possible snow on the rim and fewer crowds on the trails.
