For a first time visitor you're much better off staying in town - east side around the moat/ Chang Phuak/ Chang Klan around the Night Bazaar. It's much more interesting and while it is touristy it's bit more original with plenty of Wats (temples) to visit on foot. Nimman primarily exists to cater for Chinese tourists often with prices to match.
