Rhine River Cruise Log - Day 3
We are taken on a walking tour of Cologne. Our guide delivered an informative yet humorous introduction to the city, its history and stories of the characters who lived here. The tour ended at the cathedral, its most famous landmark and quite a remarkable piece of architecture.
Then we were treated to a local drink in one of the beer halls, served in a traditional glass ‘a stange’ Here they don’t drink out of large steiners, instead they prefer small glasses that means the drink stays cold. This is automatically replaced with a full glass when yours is empty by servers walking around, once you’ve had enough you cover the top of your glass with your beer mat.
After getting ready in our cocktail attire it’s time for our @taucktravel exclusive event. We are driven to the village of Engelskirchen, where, nestled in the forest and surrounded by a moat, we find our venue for the evening, the beautiful German castle, Schloss Ehreshoven. Greeted by a champagne reception and music in the courtyard before being invited to dine inside. Between courses we were also given a short tour of the castle.
Fireworks then signalled the end of the evening and we were driven back to the ship.
