Wānaka, New Zealand
Wanaka TOP 10 Holiday Park or Albert Town Campground (cheap, heaps of space and underrated). Or for freedom camping, Wanaka is strict so only park where clearly allowed but Glendhu Bay and Lake Hawea both have some freedom camping spots.

Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand
White Horse Hill Campground (DOC SITE) - (not free but is still cheap and one of the best views in NZ). Or Glentanner Park Centre as a backup.

Lake Tekapo / Takapō, New Zealand
Lake Tekapo Motels & Holiday Park, Tekapo TOP 10 Holiday Park - (both have unreal views and are amazing for stargazing). Almost no freedom camping spots here as it is very strict.

Christchurch TOP 10 Holiday Park or North South Holiday Park - (which is close to the airport). Not as scenic but a more practical stop.
