Bangkok, Thailand
My Bangkok list:
- Temples: Wat Arun, Wat Pho
- River/Canals: Rice Barge-Canals tour, Artist's House, Big Buddha
- Shopping: Jodd Fairs Rama 9 (eat/drink), Chatuchak (shop for everything), Platinum Fashion Mall (shop for interesting clothes at great prices)
- Ayutthaya (historical site, day trip)
- Chinatown (street markets/food)
- Khaosan Rd (drink, chill, people-watching)
- skybar (pick one)
- Nature: Lumphini Park (manicured urban park), Bang Khrachao (natural green space, great place to walk--even better to rent a bicycle)
Personally I'd pass on the Palace and Wat Phra Kaew due to lines, crowds, fees. I'd pass on the floating markets and the train market due to travel time/hassle. I'd pass on the modern malls because, well, they're modern malls. I'd pass on Sukhumvit Nana-Asoke because sex-tourism and modern expat enclave = boring
Favourite neighbourhoods that are less touristy: Talat Noi, Huay Kwang, Ratchathewi
