Arrive at the park entrance for around midday
12:30 PM – Fruita Historic District & Lunch
Explore the historic orchards; in season, you can pick fruit.
Stop at the Gifford Homestead for lunch (pies, cinnamon rolls, local jams) or bring a picnic for the shaded Fruita picnic area.
1:30 PM – Petroglyph Panel
Short boardwalk to see Fremont culture rock carvings from 700–1300 years ago.
Right along Hwy 24, so it’s an easy stop.
2:00 PM – Hickman Bridge Trail (1.8 miles RT, moderate)
Iconic natural bridge, great photo spot, and a good leg-stretcher before the scenic drive.
3:30 PM – Capitol Reef Scenic Drive
8 miles one way with several stunning pullouts.
Don’t miss:
Panorama Point & Goosenecks Overlook (you can stop here later at sunset too)
Grand Wash trailhead for optional short stroll into a canyon
Capitol Gorge Road (unpaved but usually passable; ends at trail to Pioneer Register)
4:30 PM – Cassidy Arch (3.4 miles RT, moderate–strenuous) — only if we have 2 hours to spare.
6:30 PM – Sunset at Sunset Point
0.8 miles round trip to a west-facing overlook—golden-hour glow on the cliffs.

Head to Horseshoe Bend (~10 min drive from town). The short hike (1.5 miles RT) gives you that iconic view of the Colorado River. Best seen in late afternoon when the sun isn’t directly overhead.
If time allows, drive through Glen Canyon Dam Overlook for a quick stop and beautiful perspective of Lake Powell
