Thursday night will be sleeper bus?? Train from Ninh Binh Railway to Dong Hoi then get a taxi (or arrange Oxalis pick up for ride to Phong Nha. Book ahead Chay Lap Farmstay?
alternation accommodations Moonlight sweet home, mountain view homestay, Orchard hotel and spa
• Trang An Grottoes — UNESCO-listed, rowboat through cave systems (2–3 hours)
• Tam Coc — similar to Trang An, slightly more touristy but beautiful
• Hoa Lư — the ancient 10th-century capital, two well-preserved temples
• Mua Cave — climb 500 steps for panoramic valley views (worth every step)
• Rent a motorbike and loop between all four in a day — roads are flat, rural, very low traffic
• Avoid the rowboat touts who stop mid-river asking for tips — you can politely decline
• Trang An > Tam Coc if you can only do one — more spectacular cave systems
Trang an boat tour Bich Dong and Hang Mua are worthwhile though

Take bus morning of 4/26 to Hue (5 hrs)
many buses, OR train from dong hoi for $20 at 6:40 am (plus cab to train station)
• The Imperial Citadel & Forbidden Purple City (budget 3–4 hours)
• Thien Mu Pagoda by the river
• Royal tombs — Tomb of Tu Duc is the most beautiful
• Bún bò Huế — spicy beef noodle soup, originated here, best in the world in Hue
• Evening walk along the Perfume River
a morning sightseeing before transferring to Alba (~30km northwest). Get a local driver to take you — not worth riding yourself with luggage.

to get from hue to hoi an Best option in my opinion is to take a morning train from Hue to Da Nang (180k/ticket). You will be able to see Hai Van Pass and experience local railway service (sit on left side). Then from Da Nang Station, use a ride hailing app to get to Hoi An (another ~300k/car, cheaper if you share with friends or go by motorcycle)
Source: I'm a local and this is my preferred option all the time.

• Old Town wandering — Japanese Covered Bridge, Tan Ky merchant house, assembly halls
• An Bàng Beach (10 min by bike) — wide, relatively uncrowded, great beach bars
• Hai Van Pass motorbike ride — the iconic coastal mountain road between Da Nang and Hue. Anthony Bourdain rode it. Take a full morning.
• Tailors — bring reference photos, they're fast (24–48hrs) and genuinely skilled
• Morning market for produce and local breakfast
Rent a motorbike in Hoi An, ride north toward Da Nang, climb the pass, get the views, and come back. It's a half-day ride, ~60km each way. The pass itself is about 15–20 minutes of riding with multiple pull-offs for views. Guided day tours also available — easy to book from any guesthouse.
Ha Linh, Yaly Couture, and A Dong Silk are the most reputable. Go early on day 1, get fitted, pick up day 2 before you leave. Bring any inspiration photos on your phone.

• Snorkeling/diving — some of the best coral in Vietnam
• Con Dao Prison — the colonial-era 'tiger cages' where political prisoners were held. Sobering, important.
