From Chiang Mai, head three hours north to the mountainous hippie town of Pai in Mae Hong Son province. From hot springs to waterfalls, canyons, great street food, lively bars and live music, there are many reasons why backpackers call this one of their favourite hangouts in Thailand. To get there, it’s a 3 hour mini-bus through windy mountain roads (with 762 curves! 🤮) or, if you’re feeling adventurous and have your own wheels, make Pai a stopover as part of the spectacular Mae Hong Soon Motorbike Loop.
