Wilpattu National Park is de leefomgeving van vele verschillende dieren. Er leven ongeveer 30 verschillende soorten zoogdieren, met in het bijzonder de luipaard. Deze koning van het park staat aan de top van de voedselketen en dit park is het oorspronkelijke leefgebied van de luipaard. De kans dat je oog in oog met dit majestueuze roofdier komt te staan is dus best aanwezig. Naast luipaarden, struinen er ook wat olifanten door Wilpattu National Park, maar tegenwoordig zijn deze vaker buiten het park in de dorpen te vinden. In de dorpen gaan ze namelijk op zoek naar eten. Ook de zeldzame sloth beren (lippenberen) kan je tegenkomen in Wilpattu National Park. Net als waterbuffels, krokodillen, zwijnen, diverse hertensoorten en veel exotische vogels.

* Buy a ‘mix’ from a short eats seller on the streets👌🏻😋
* Bring water bottles.
* If possible, donate something to the Monk of the Gokanna temple.
* Deers freely roam on the roads of trinco 🦌❤️
Basil & Parsley smell will attract the deers.
It is best to feed them natural foods. Include nuts, corn and fruits like apple, pears are their favorite.

Ben je iets minder geïnteresseerd in de restanten op Lion Rock en wil je vooral genieten van een mooi uitzicht? Dan is het eigenlijk nog een veel beter idee om Pidurangala Rock te beklimmen en hier te genieten van een prachtige zonsopkomst. Naast dat de entreeprijs aanzienlijk lager is, kijk je ook nog eens uit op de beroemde Lion Rock, die van een afstandje prachtig uit de jungle omhoog rijst. Het is een klim van ongeveer 20 à 30 minuten waarbij je het laatste stukje over een paar enorme keien moet klimmen. Dat is niet gevaarlijk of heel moeilijk wanneer je een goede basisconditie hebt. Wil je niet vroeg uit de veren dan is ook de zonsondergang vanaf hier prachtig. Zorg wel dat je met een tuktuk naar het wandelpad gaat of wordt opgehaald. Deze weg ligt midden in de jungle en het is niet veilig om hier in het donker te lopen omdat er olifanten leven.
