Recommend: 4 nights minimum, ideally a week esp if surfing (June-August/off season - Rest of south coast pretty empty) So lively, lots of nice food spots and boutiques/shops Popular for surfing - can hire boards for 500-1000 an hour (Chuty’s surf school), lessons 6000 Peanut farm beach 20 mins drive and really nice, v good for surfing Sunset spots: Crocodile rock, elephant rock, lighthouse Hire a moped! Easy to get around (2000-2500 per day - TAKE PHOTOS WHEN YOU GET IT) To stay: Happy Hammocks, Wave point, Hangten (but far out) More basic - Arugam wave, Hangover (big hostel), Surfing Lion Surfing Lion do a camping trip once a week which is a must do - take you out to this reserve where loads of elephants and you sleep under stars, nice fire cooked meal as well (7500 pp)

Recommend: 2-3 nights To stay: Roy’s villa - insane but so spenny, does include lots of free activities I stayed in Treehouse which is so nice and lots of organised activities (lake, Pudurangala rock, secret rock) Cafe next door to Treehouse hostel is so so nice Bar rec: Rastarant - really cool
Ella, Sri Lanka

Recommend: 3-4 nights Really amazing surroundings and hiking, very westernised town To stay: Wild Bee - spenny but very nice Downtown (Most hostels in ella sounded pretty good) Hikes/ activities: DIYALUMA waterfalls - must do - hire mopeds ideally - 1 hour 20 min drive but beautiful V steep bit at the end up to free parking signs Don’t let people convince you you need a guide it’s rubbish! Hike up (all trails has route) or https://www.walkmyworld.com/posts/how-to-hike-diyaluma-falls-without-a-guide Can swim and jump at all levels of waterfall Little Adem’s peak for sunrise/sunset Ella Rock - beautiful view (2 checkpoints), need a good 4 hours and birks won’t do the job, probs not for sunrise do in the day Nine Arches bridge - easy walk Tea plantations tours
