Equipped with included Hakone Transport Pass, you can take advantage of the numerous forms of transport on offer throughout the park. Take a ride in the worlds second longest cable car up to Mount Owakudani, passing over sulphurous fumes and hot springs. You’ll also have the chance to try a hard boiled egg which has been cooked in the sulphuric hot springs, legend has it eating one of these will add seven years to your life!
Later embark on a replica pirate ship which will sweep you across Lake Ashinoko, a lake formed by a volcanic eruption 3000 years ago or alternatively board the Hakone Tozan’s switchback train which zigzags through the mountains, giving amazing views of the surrounding valleys. On a clear day you may be able to catch glimpses or Mount Fuji.
Tonight you will be staying in a traditional Japanese-style ryokan accommodation. In the evening, relax in your yukata (lightweight kimono), and dine on a traditional Japanese style multi-course meal.

Day 6: Thursday 8th February

First stop today should be the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in central Hiroshima which is dedicated to those who lost their lives in the 1945 bombing. Stroll through the park and discover the many moving memorials, monuments and statues before heading into the museum itself.
Later, take a short ferry ride to Miyajima, a wooded island located in the Inland Sea near Hiroshima. Here you will find perhaps the most photographed site in Japan - the floating torii gate of the Itsukushima Shrine. The shrine itself dates back to the 6th Century and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Miyajima is relatively small so you can explore its many shrines and temples on foot or you could hire a bike. There is also the opportunity to take the cable car or hike up to the top of Mount Misen (530m) for sweeping views of the island and surrounding Inland Sea. Before you return to Hiroshima for the night, keep your eyes out for shops selling little maple leaf shaped cakes – these local delicacies make a delicious souvenir!
