Koenji is Shimokitazawa's grittier sibling — its covered shotengai arcades hide dozens of independent vintage stores like Oasis and Gigo, with a stronger punk and subculture edge. Fuel up at Café Niquita or the beloved Koenji Coffee for hand-drip single-origin brews before diving into the dense alley shopping. The north and south exits each have distinct clusters, so budget half a day to properly cover both sides of the station.
