A charming alpine village nestled in the Contamines valley, perfect for the first overnight stop. The Refuge de la Balme just above town is a welcoming hut with hearty Savoyard meals. The 17th-century Notre-Dame de la Gorge chapel nearby is worth a short detour.

Courmayeur, Italy
Cross into Italy via the Col de la Seigne for stunning views of the southern face of Mont Blanc. Courmayeur is the most cosmopolitan stop on the TMB — treat yourself to pasta and gelato after tough trail days. The Refuge Bertone above town offers a breathtaking sunrise over the Aosta Valley.

Champex-Lac, Switzerland
Enter Switzerland and wind through the Grand Col Ferret before descending to this idyllic mountain lake village. The calm lake is perfect for a swim or a rowing boat rental after a long hiking day. Stock up here as the Swiss section has fewer resupply points.

Trient, Switzerland
A tiny, peaceful Swiss hamlet tucked in a narrow valley below the Col de la Forclaz. The Refuge du Col de la Forclaz just above offers incredible glacier views of the Trient Glacier. This is one of the most scenic and remote overnight stops on the entire circuit.

Return to France and finish the TMB with the legendary Aiguilles Rouges section above Chamonix. Celebrate your completion with a fondue or raclette in this iconic alpine town. Don't miss the Aiguille du Midi cable car for a final jaw-dropping perspective on Mont Blanc at 3842m.
