Patagonia chilena, Chile
Torres del Paine National Park (Patagonia) was phenomenal. It takes 4-5 days to
hike the W trail and all the others (or you can do what my sisters and I did and
struggle to cram it into 2 days). If you're passing through Santiago, I cannot
suggest strongly enough that you go visit Easter Island for 3 days. You have to
fly through Santiago or Tahiti to get there, so why not? I loved it. Also, if it
isn't too much trouble, go to Iguazu Falls!!! Easiest to get there flying
through Buenos Aires. 2 days is enough and it's amazing. Largest waterfall
system in the world! And nearby is Itaipu Dam, largest dam in the world. Tour of
it was awesome. If you do both (Iguazu and Itaipu) I'd say give yourself 3
days--1 for the dam and 2 for the falls. Patagonia highlights for me: El chalten
(the best), el Calafate for the glacier, around ushuaia there is beautiful
hiking too, on the Chilean side Torres del Paine, also loved Pucon and Puerto
Varas in the lagos region Aysen region of Chilean Patagonia (carretera austral
route), including the northern end of it at parque pumalin which is phenomenal.
Caleta tortel at the southern end and villa o’Higgins, which you can get to by
horseback and crossing a lake - the most underrated part of Patagonia!
