Your cheapest option to reach Bukit Lawang is by public bus. From Medan, head to Mawar Bakery in Jalan Pinang Baris (this is not far from the Pinang Baris Bus Station, but it’s an easier spot to catch the bus than the bus station itself). Find the mini-buses with Bukit Lawang signs. Don’t negotiate with people on the street – talk to your driver and only pay your driver when you arrive in Bukit Lawang. Expect to pay around 50,000 per person.

Horas! Welcome to the world’s largest volcanic lake! There’s nowhere on the planet quite like Lake Toba. This immense lake is 100 km (62 miles) long and 30 km (18 miles) wide, covering around 1145 km² (711 miles²). In some places, it plunges to 450 metres.
In the middle of this lake is breathtaking Pulau Samosir (Samosir Island), which is the same size as Singapore!
Fun fact: Samosir is the world’s largest island on a lake in an island!
